Communication Technologies & Human Interaction (Grade 11)

The Grade 11 iteration of the recurring communication-technologies discussion subtopic.

Use the same benefit/risk framework as 10.2.9, now expecting a slightly more developed discussion with specific, current examples of cell phones, video calling, email, messaging and social media.

  • Consider how these technologies have changed the nature of relationships (e.g. maintaining friendships across distance vs reduced depth of in-person connection).
  • Consider mental health impacts — both positive (support communities, accessibility for isolated individuals) and negative (social comparison, addiction-like usage patterns, cyberbullying).
  • Consider workplace/education impacts — remote work and online learning became mainstream partly due to these technologies.
