The same discussion skill as 10.1.8, now applied to more advanced or recent technologies as your knowledge base grows.
Use the same five-factor framework as in Grade 10 to evaluate the impact of a new technology, but you're now expected to engage with more sophisticated examples (e.g. AI-driven hardware, advanced wearables, edge computing devices):
| Factor | Guiding question |
|---|---|
| Gender | Does the technology's design or data assumptions treat users differently based on gender? |
| Race / Culture / Religion / Ethnicity | Could algorithmic bias or cultural assumptions in the technology disadvantage certain groups? |
| Environmental factors | What is the technology's power consumption, e-waste impact, or resource extraction footprint? |
| Economic factors | Who can afford it, and could it widen or narrow the digital divide? Does it create or destroy jobs? |
💡 Exam Tip
At Grade 11 level, examiners look for you to weigh both a benefit and a drawback for at least two different factors, rather than only listing benefits — balanced discussion earns more marks than a one-sided list.
